Arezzo
Arezzo is set on a steep hill rising from the floodplain of the Arno. In the upper part of the town are the cathedral, the town hall and the Medici Fortress (Fortezza Medicea), from which the main streets branch off towards the lower part as far as the gates. The upper part of the town maintains its medieval appearance despite the addition of later structures.
The Piazza Grande is the most noteworthy medieval square in the city, opening behind the thirteenth-century Romanesque apse of S. Maria della Pieve.
Arezzo is renowned for its antique fairs, which take place on the first Sunday of every month, and the preceding Saturday. A medieval reenactment, the Giostra del Saracino takes place twice a year, on the third Sunday of June and the first Sunday of September. The town is also the home of an annual free music festival, Arezzo Wave Festival.
