Greve in Chianti
The Chianti region is the hilly landscape area in the region between Florence and Siena where the Chianti Classico Wine is produced.
Greve in Chianti, which is named after the river that runs through it, is the main town of the Chianti Classico wine zone, home to Chianti's largest wine fair, held every September. The Chianti Classico wine festival is held every year on the second weekend of September, 11 - 13 Sept 2009. The idea is that you buy a wine glass from the Segretaria and are then free to taste any and all wines offered at the stands.
Greve also holds a weekly market in the main piazza (Piazza Matteotti) every Saturday morning and an antiques and collectors' fair twice a year - on Easter Monday and the second Sunday of October.
